Broadsword Battle - Sword Testing

Reenacted sword fight with hand forged blades by Forged in Time

A Sword Fighting Reenactment Puts Forged in Time to the Test

Here’s an example of my brother and I testing my swords. We do historical reenactments and here we are demonstrating a 15th century swordfight to fellow reenactors and the public. This is live steel sword-fighting and should NOT be attempted by anyone unless they are extensively trained. By live steel, I mean that we are using REAL weapons, not blunted stage weapons, and that we are swinging full speed, full force, and that we are fighting in-distance. Other than the fact that we are not actually trying to kill eachother this is as close to real as you can get. The fights are not rehearsed or choreographed. They are freestyle and typically last for about 15 minutes.

An Older Workhorse – Longsword Testing

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

These are pictures of a longsword I made about seven years ago. This one has been through a lot of test cutting. Plywood, aspen and balsam saplings, seasoned hardwood, wet carpet, dry carpet, 1 1/2 inch sisal and jute rope, pvc pipe, electrical conduit, electrical conduit with wet newspaper wrapped around it to simulate flesh and bone, and anything else that gets in my way. It has performed very well.

The blade is flat ground, 1 7/8  inches wide, 29 3/4 inches long and .23 inches thick at the guard with a distal taper to the point.

The hilt is 9 1/4 inches long with a two inch pommel and a 3/8 inch thick guard. The grip is about 6 7/8 inches long, ash core with leather cord wrapping and leather overwrap. All told it weighs two pounds and fourteen ounces. It moves very quickly in the hand and has outstanding point control.

Also have a look at our standard Long Sword. Now available at a super low price.
