Meet the newest addition to the Elite Line family of Forged In Time products: the Godwin Longsword! Meticulously hand crafted by Benjamin Rial from the finest materials and designed from the ground up to be a superb fighting instrument capable of lightning quick action. With a point of balance just 2 3/4″ from the guard, the Godwin allows for precise tip control and quick movements. Tipping the scales at a very comfortable three pounds and one ounce, the Godwin is neither heavy in the hand or on your hip.
The grip and scabbard are both covered in a rich dark green leather that is both durable and supple with a texture that provides a secure grip. The grip tapers gently from the guard to the pommel and is accented with a double mid rib. The elegant yet simple guard spans a full nine inches and provides excellent protection while not getting in the way. The wheel pommel perfectly balances the blade and lends a classical medieval longsword appeal to the overall aesthetic.
The blade itself is hand forged from a single bar of high carbon 5160 alloy spring steel and is marquench heat treated to an edge hardness of approximately 54 rockwell c while the spine is drawn back to a 48 and the tang is annealed further to the upper 30′s for excellent edge holding ability combined with tremendous toughness and flexibility. The fuller runs approximately one third of the blade length, shedding some weight while not sacrificing strength and the rest of the blade is of a flattened diamond cross section providing stiffness for powerful thrusting capability. The tang is peened against a pyramidal peen block. The edge is honed to a hair-splitting sharpness. The Godwin Longsword is truly a medieval sword that any warrior would be proud to own.
