About Forged in Time Bladesmithing

Forged In Time is owned and operated by Benjamin Rial. His life-long fascination (obsession) with history and all things sharp led him inevitably into the bladesmithing profession.

18 years ago he started with a fire-pit, a rock for an anvil, a pair of pliers, a ball-pein hammer and some scrap mild steel.

Today he has a thoroughly modern shop with welding, machining, polishing, and drilling equipment. But the basic tools used to make every piece are the ages-old tools of the blacksmith. Hammer, forge, anvil, tongs, steel. An in-depth study of the elemental table, alloying elements, working properties, and specific alloys has given him a very detailed and exacting working knowledge of the materials he works with.

Years of hands-on practical experience actually using (and abusing) the tools he makes as well as being a live-steel combat practitioner for over 17 years gives him a perspective of the tools many other craftsmen do not.

Hey, i was wondering in which country you are located and are the edges of the blade scharpened? I am a huge fan of swords, although i am under eighteen years (15yrs), i’ll buy a custom sword imediately when i turn 18.

    regards, Jasper

  4. TheBladesmith says:

Hello, I am in the USA and yes, the edges are sharp. I realize some countries have strict regulations regarding sharp edged imports, so if necessary I can leave the edges blunted if necessary.

  5. Jasper says:

alright thanks, well here in holland i believe the regulations say you must be 18 (of course) for buying a sword, but i didn’t read anything about restriction of import of sharp blades, so i think that wouldn’t be a problem. Thanks for the information! Your work is great and i will definitely keep it in mind.

I have only been on this site for about a minute, but already I am blown away! Your work is amazing, and the site looks so professional! As a huge fan of medieval weaponry (particularly swords), a website like this really inspires me. You seem very knowledgeable about what you are talking about. . . . I will be co-authoring a fantasy novel soon, where multiple characters use swords, dangers, etc. This site will be an excellent source for my research. Thank you so very much! :)
